Development focus

From browser pre-alpha to a custom-built future.

Celestial Regime began in the browser, grew into a Unity desktop rebuild, and is now being built in a custom MonoGame engine. Each version has helped shape the journey from managing a homeworld to reaching a shared galaxy.

The next chapter

A custom engine for a growing civilization

Built around the game's own needs, from the first settlement to the long-term challenge of interplanetary expansion.

Development history

Three versions, one strategic ambition.

The game has changed shape as its technical needs have become clearer. Each version helped define the next one.

01

Browser beginnings

Celestial Regime began as a browser strategy game inspired by the persistent empire-building rhythm of OGame. The public web pre-alpha preserves that early chapter.

02

The Unity rebuild

A desktop version was then rebuilt in Unity to explore a different technical path and bring the game into a dedicated client. That version remains playable as a working reference for this chapter of development.

03

A purpose-built direction

The Unity experiment made the cost of unnecessary overhead and engine constraints clear. Development has since moved to a custom engine built on MonoGame, shaped around Celestial Regime's own systems.

Major systems

What the next build is designed to support.

Each system below has a role in the larger arc, from early homeworld management to later interplanetary strategy.

Current foundation

A custom engine built on MonoGame

Celestial Regime is now being built in a custom MonoGame engine, giving the project more direct control over the systems that matter to a long-running strategy game.

Active direction

Era progression

Civilization eras create the long-form structure, letting new systems arrive as your society advances from ancient settlements to galactic infrastructure.

Planned systems

Planet identity

Race traits, morale, and world events are meant to shape how two empires diverge long before they ever meet in space.

Future frontier

Interplanetary expansion

Space travel, colonization, trade routes, piracy, and PvP are part of the intended move from planetary strategy to a shared galaxy.

Long-form trajectory

How the scope expands over time.

These steps show how Celestial Regime grows from survival on one world to strategy across many.

01

Secure the homeworld

Scout the terrain, place the first structures, and keep a growing population supplied.

02

Scale the civilization

Advance through eras that add stronger infrastructure, more specialization, and bigger decisions.

03

Give worlds their own character

Planet conditions, race traits, morale, and events should make each run feel different.

04

Open the galaxy

Move from one-world management into trade, expansion, rivalry, and interplanetary conflict.
